Pinas in Ayurveda is the Sinusitis in Allopathy. The names may have different versions, but the mode of damage is one. Sinusitis is a condition of blocked sinuses (nasal polyps) with underlying causes such as accumulation of mucus, germs, fluid, and infection. The risk bearers would be the vulnerable individuals catching a cold, flu, and cough easily. Other causes may include the infection in the nasal cavity. The classifications of Pinas have four different names:

Spontaneous sinusitis: A sudden or an unexplained cold lasting up to 4 weeks or may less even. It can also be termed as acute sinusitis. Sub-acute sinusitis: An extended version of acute sinusitis. It is an inflammation in the nasal cavity that lasts between 4 and 8 weeks.Chronic sinusitis: The word ‘chronic’ is self-explanatory; it is a type of sinusitis that lasts more than eight weeks. Recurrent sinusitis: It is a common problem of the sinus (pinas) that brings up the frequent episodes of acute sinusitis within a year.

Ayurveda understands this problem as the blockage in the pinas that may have a cure for the infected. It is a multifaceted approach that involves a combination of detoxification, oral herbal medicines, and dietary & lifestyle amendments. Ayurvedic therapies like panchakarma, Nasyam, Shirodhara are the perfect blend of Ayurvedic techniques to cure the Kapha imbalance. It will not only help in easing the problem, but it may affect reducing the frequent episodes of sinusitis.
